What do Field Hockey, Robotics, and musical theater have in common? They’re all part of Williston’s Afternoon Program, a key part of the Upper School and Middle School experience.
About the Afternoon Program
Williston’s Afternoon Program is generally required for Upper School students—boarding and day—each trimester. Depending on their grade level, students choose either group or independent options. Here’s how the expectations break down by grade level:
- Twelfth grade must select a minimum of one group option
- Ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade must select a minimum of two group options
- All new Upper School students must choose a group option in the fall
- For Middle School students, participation in the afternoon program is optional
Special Projects
We love when our students get creative and think outside the box, and Afternoon Program is a great place to do that. Students wishing to pursue any special project or exemption, including an outside sport, sport specialization, academic- or art-related endeavor, or any other type of project, can apply to the Special Project Committee prior to the start of a given trimester.
Off-Campus Opportunities
We understand that students may wish to pursue interests off campus, athletic or otherwise, during the school year. In general, it is school policy that students must first meet their commitment to the Williston Afternoon Program. Having said this, we understand that there will be the occasional conflict. In such cases, students communicate with their Williston Afternoon Program leader (usually a coach or teacher) to avoid conflicts when possible.
