Visual & Performing Arts

Williston students engage in the arts through classes and extracurricular programs. Whether they paint, dance, play music, or act, this engagement helps them develop intellectual and cognitive abilities that connect to all their experiences in school and in life. Study of the arts provides a meaningful and constructive connection to other cultures and other times. Through the arts, our students discover that there is a unique opportunity to create community and to share with others, while experiencing the excitement of creative realization and self-discovery.

The faculty of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, while diverse in their individual artistic pursuits, share a common concern for developing human expressiveness and a profound commitment to making the arts an integral part of their students’ lives and the Williston community.

Our students experience the arts more deeply because of the school’s close relationship with the Five Colleges and by the many cultural and artistic offerings in the Pioneer Valley. They have the opportunity to attend concerts, dance performances, theatrical performances, and to visit the many galleries and museums throughout the area. On our own campus, we host lectures, workshops, and demonstrations by arts faculty and students from the Five Colleges, and we produce the Photographers’ Lecture Series and the Williston Film Festival.
