The Babcock Pool and Williston Swim Program are synonymous with historical achievement. A new chapter began when Jarrod Zwirko dove into the pool. A stellar swimmer in his time at Williston, Jarrod or “Beaner” as familiar family and faculty would call him, made a significant impact both as a swimmer and water polo player during his tenure. He grew from a middle school athlete to a two-time varsity captain in both sports, leading through example, hard work and sheer joy for the pool. Jarrod earned All-American status as a swimmer and his 400 and 200 freestyle relay record stands to this day. His senior year began in ‘99 with a new Williston Swim Coach, David Koritkoski. Jarrod and his co-captain Steve LaPlante welcomed the new hire with the help of Hall of Famer AD, Rick Francis. They quickly formed a vision for the team and carried out a historic run when all was said and done. The scope of his Williston career and the impact he made was recognized by his winning the Denman Bowl for most outstanding male athlete his senior year. In a very individualized sport, Jarrod galvanized his team through his own efforts, humor and actions. As a captain, he was a large part of setting a team culture that expected difficulty training, performance excellence and strong bonds that were unrivaled. Zwirko also excelled as a swimmer for another group of Wildcats, the University of New Hampshire where he set two university relay records. When asked what stood out most from his time at Williston was the camaraderie of his teammates, noting that some of his favorite memories at Williston were made in the Babcock Pool. Jarrod even chose to come back to his alma mater for a brief stint, teaching English and coaching on the pool deck which was like a second home. Koritkoski recently shared that he has cherished the friendship that has grown since Jarrod’s graduation 25 years ago. He added that “Jarrod accomplished amazing things in the pool, on the pool deck and beyond. He couldn’t be more proud.” He has achieved individual All–American recognition, set team relays and raised the level of competition in a historic program. For these reasons and so much more, we are excited to welcome Jarrod “Beaner” Zwirko into the Williston Hall of Fame.
