In her six years at Williston, Kira (Canon) Goodman packed a lot in, earning a whopping 15 varsity letters. Her biggest achievements came in the pool, where she was a standout swimmer and water polo player. She spent six years on the swim team, skyrocketing from Most Improved Swimmer as a freshman to being a team captain in her junior and senior years. During her time in the pool, she set five school records (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 200 free relay, 100 breaststroke, and 400 free relay) and earned All-New England honors in 1999 for her 100-breaststroke performance. In water polo, Kira earned five varsity letters, MIP honors, and a Most Valuable Player honor. She led the team in goals and assists in her junior and senior seasons and competed at the Junior Nationals twice. In the spring, Kira earned four letters playing lacrosse. Not many aquatic athletes can make the transition to land and her athleticism made it seem effortless. No matter where she competed, she set a tone for the team by giving her best and leaving it all out there. Kira’s tenacity and athleticism earned her a place on the Division I George Washington water polo team where she competed for four years. To this day, the bond with her core group of Williston teammates in the pool and on the field continues. Memories of lacrosse pre-season trips to Florida, long hours in the bus for water polo games and swim practices mapped out on the dry-erase board in Babcock Pool remain the foundation to her experience. Kira’s accomplishments may be in the pool and on the field, but they are cemented forever in the records.
