Frank Vana Jr. attended Williston as a postgraduate during the 1980-81 school year where he excelled in football, ice hockey and golf. During the fall, he played for Coach Francis, where his hard-nosed, determined play stood out on the defensive side of the ball earned him the team’s most valuable defensive player award. During the winter, he transitioned over to Lossone to play for Coach Larry Trinceri, leading the team in scoring and earning most valuable player honors. In the spring, he shifted gears by heading to the links, where he demonstrated his versatility as an athlete by being named the MVP of the golf team. Historically speaking, it is very rare for a PG to be awarded the top senior athletic prize—Frank Vana stood out as that kind of exception. At the end of the year, he was named the recipient of the Denman Award, recognizing his outstanding accomplishments and leadership during his one year on campus. Following graduation, Frank attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he played hockey and golf, earning regional success in golf by winning the MAAC golf championship in ‘83. Frank then transferred to Assumption College, where he continued to demonstrate his exceptional athleticism as an outstanding three-sport collegiate athlete playing football, hockey and golf. He was inducted into the Assumption College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Following his collegiate career, Frank has continued his high level of athletic success on the golf course, earning Massachusetts Golf Association player of the year honors NINE times and senior player of the year FIVE times. Additionally, he was named the Massachusetts Golf Association player of the decade for both the 1990s and 2000s while also becoming the winningest amateur golfer in Massachusetts Golf Association history!
