Student Wins Classical Association of New England’s 2026 Latin Motto Contest

For the third year in a row, a Williston student has been named a winner of the Classical Association of New England’s Latin Motto Contest.

This year, Henry Kwak ’30 was announced as one of the four winners of the contest. Kwak, a middle schooler, is currently enrolled in Honors Latin II.

“It’s cool to be recognized,” Kwak said of winning the competition. “I’m really excited for the prize [a gift card to Barnes & Noble].”

Kwak came up with her motto after hearing a similar version in a TV show.

“It didn’t take me too long to come up with it,” Kwak said. “The original line was something like ‘you’re alive as long as someone remembers you,’ something like that.”

Kwak joins recent winners Brandon Gou ’26, who won last year, and Linnea Rhodes ’25 as winners of the award.
