Fall Play: Bakkhai

This fall, the Williston Theater presents Bakkhai as the fall play. Written by Euripides, the play is new version by Anne Carson.

Dionysus, god of wine and ecstasy, returns to his birthplace to demand recognition. But when King Pentheus refuses to bow, the consequences are brutal, bloody, and unforgettable. Euripides’ Bakkhai, in Anne Carson’s electrifying modern translation, captures a timely clash between reckless power and the desperate need for public worship.

The play runs October 30, 31, and November 1 at 7 p.m. in the Williston Theater.
