All About the Afternoon Program

;

What do Field Hockey, Robotics, and musical theater have in common? They’re all part of Williston’s Afternoon Program, a key part of the Upper School and Middle School experience. A day at Williston is hardly over when classes end; after a short break, our inspired and excited students spread out across our 125-acre campus to pursue their passions.

The choices are abundant for students as they seek meaningful ways to spend the afternoon. Whether playing on a top-level athletic team that will prepare them for college, exploring group or solo creative pursuits, or delving into other non-competitive options like yoga or community service, Williston students have myriad ways to seek excellence outside the classroom. The Afternoon Program is yet another avenue for our students to be themselves here.

“The afternoon program is a core part of the Williston experience. Many of our coaches are also faculty members who work with students across campus. Their reach is expansive, and the relationships they build help support each student’s growth in meaningful, lasting ways.” – Jade Morris, Director of Athletics

Choose Your Adventure

Each trimester, a Williston student will choose a program from one of the following categories:

  • Arts: The arts are alive at Williston, and we have the afternoon program options to prove it! Students can explore dance, music, photography and videography, theater, and visual art, and can do so in our wide array of art and theater spaces.
  • Athletics: Each year, Williston fields over 35 sports teams, with options from elite varsity teams to opportunities for beginners. In addition, we offer non-competitive options that get our students moving, including yoga, fitness, pickleball, and more.
  • Community Focus: Students can also choose to spend their afternoon program time being part of Williston’s Children’s Center, or exploring community service opportunities.

Off-Campus Opportunities

We understand that students may wish to pursue interests off campus, athletic or otherwise, during the school year. In general, it is school policy that students must first meet their commitment to the Williston Afternoon Program. Having said this, we understand that there will be the occasional conflict. In such cases, students communicate with their Williston Afternoon Program leader (usually a coach or teacher) to avoid conflicts when possible.
