Math
Department Philosophy Statement: The Williston Northampton Mathematics and Computer Science department believes that summer work plays an important role in facilitating review to highlight important areas of focus for prerequisite material needed to support student success in the course in which they plan to enroll. Whether a course has a summer work component is up to the discretion of the instructors, but for multi-section courses, summer work expectations, including grading, will be the same across all sections regardless of the instructor*. Summer work will be collected on the first-class meeting period that work can be accepted per ASC guidelines, and while it may be scored for correctness, it should not be scored as a major assessment grade.
*Summer work expectations may vary for students enrolling in a course against the recommendation of their last mathematics instructor and will be different for students moving from standard into honors/AP courses regardless of instructor recommendation. These students, as well as students skipping courses via summer work, should speak to the Williston Northampton Mathematics and Computer Science department head individually for summer work expectations.
