Williston Community Service Club members have been busy during the first trimester of the school year—despite a global pandemic. The 60 participants have amassed a comprehensive list of projects including these:
- Helped raise more than $20,000 for families facing pediatric cancer by helping plan and staff the 2020 Just Tryan It event
- Picked up three large garbage bags’ worth of litter on the Manhan Rail Trail
- Illustrated and signed a large “thank you” poster with sweet and encouraging messages for nurses and frontline workers at Baystate Medical Center (see below)
- Filmed an appreciation video for Williston staff members
The group is also planning projects for the remainder of the year. They will collect letters from students to share with residents of local nursing homes. “The idea is to bring a little bit of cheer,” said Sarah Markey ’22, one of the club presidents. “We know that many nursing home residents can’t be with their families due to COVID, so we hope some letters and cards can help them keep their spirits up.”
A coat and blanket drive in conjunction with the Winter Warmer concert and a spring canned food drive are also on the club’s agenda.
