Girls, Boys Squash Teams Finish 2nd at NEPSAC Tournaments

The 2024-25 season resulted in silverware for both the varsity boys and girls squash programs, with each team finishing second in its respective New England Preparatory School Athletic Council tournament.

The second-seeded boys team finished second in Class E, winning a pair of games during Saturday’s quarterfinals and semifinals before falling to top-seeded Portsmouth Abbey School in the championship match 5-2.

The girls team, meanwhile, finished second in Class E after winning both of their group games to make the final, eventually falling to Canterbury School 4-3 in the championship.

Boys Team

The NEPSAC tournament weekend started on Saturday morning against No. 7 St. Andrew’s School, with the Wildcats winning 6-1 to move on. Liam Barry ’25, Connor Graff ’26, Oscar Cui ’25, Sebastian Enriquez ’25, Bennett Evelti ’26, Noah Comrie ’27, and Peter Suranunt ’26 all won their matches 3-0 against St. Andrew’s.

In the semifinals later on Saturday, the Wildcats beat No. 3 Canterbury School by a score of 7-0, although a pair of individual matches went the distance. Nevin Conroy ’25 held off a late rally at No. 1 singles to win his match 3-2, while Graff overcame a 2-1 hole in his match at No. 3 singles to win 3-2. Cui, Enriquez, Comrie, and Suranunt all swept their matches in the win.

Sunday’s championship match went in favor of Portsmouth Abbey, 5-2. Enriquez and Comrie picked up the individual wins for the Wildcats, each by a score of 3-1. Graff played in a thriller of a match at No. 3 singles, falling to Bohan Li 3-2 but rallying from an 0-2 hole to force the decisive fifth match. In total, three of the five games Graff and Li played against each other were two-point games.

Girls Team

Williston’s path to the championship was a narrow one, as the Wildcats won their two Group 1 matches at the tournament by matching 4-3 scores. In the first match, Williston took down St. Luke’s School, then followed it up with a win over Portsmouth Abbey. In a truly unique twist, every match played in Group 1 ended with a 4-3 score, with Portsmouth Abbey beating St. Luke’s 4-3 to finish second in the group.

Against St. Luke’s, Addison Perich ’27, Viktoría Valdimarsdóttir ’25, Alicia Lindinger ’26, and Mina Sugiyama ’25 won their matches to lift Williston to the win, with Perich, Lindinger, and Sugiyama all winning 3-0. In the match against Portsmouth Abbey, Olivia Zaiken ’27 and Zoe Zhang ’25 picked up matching 3-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, with Lindinger also recording a sweep and Valdimarsdottir picking up the fourth victory.

In the championship match, the Wildcats put up a heroic fight but fell 4-3 to Canterbury. Perich, Valdimarsdóttir, and Lindinger picked up the three wins for Williston, with Lindinger recording a 3-0 sweep.
