Athletes of the Week

Maddy Cardaci ‘20 – Girls Varsity Field Hockey

Maddy was vital in the Wildcats season opener on the road at St. Mark’s on Saturday. She seamlessly moved between two positions to help the team and had two amazing saves in the net to keep the Wildcats in the game.  While her position doesn’t often come with a lot of statistics, her presence on the back line is stellar.  She is the foundation of the defense this year and has already stepped into a leadership role for the defensive unit. The team will continue to look towards Maddie for her confident, experienced and ferocious play!

Shogo Kamei ‘20– Boys Varsity Water Polo

Shogo has been a great leader during the first weeks of the season for the Wildcats. Last weekend he was a strong presence at both ends of the pool. Not only did he lead the team in scoring, netting 5 goals on the day, but he also contributed by playing smart, positional defense. Shogo has worked hard to improve his water polo IQ drastically over the past few years and this has undoubtedly contributed to the quick development of the young team. The Wildcats will lean on Shogo’s experience and offensive weapons throughout the season.

Ryan Dwyer ‘19 – Boys Varsity Soccer

Ryan has had two great weeks for the boys varsity soccer team. He has quickly acclimated to goalkeeper – a new position for him – where his athletic ability and leadership have been on full display since the start of the season.  He has helped the team maintain a high standard of performance during preseason trainings and two preseason scrimmages against St. Mark’s and MacDuffie. Ryan works every day to better himself and his teammates and his hard work has clearly paid dividends for the squad.

Abigail Touhey ’22- Girls Varsity Cross Country

Abigail has had a very strong start to the season for the Wildcats. On Saturday at Kent, the freshman helped lead the team to a convincing win, placing 2nd out of 38 runners. Adding to her already spectacular feat she did this on one of the most challenging courses the squad will see all season, on probably the hottest and most humid day of the season! Abigail showed proof of her will and determination to compete at her best even when the odds were stacked against her. She consistently provides a positive example to her teammates as she brings her all to every practice and meet. Her team will lean on her for her leadership throughout the rest of the season.

Artur Lysyuk ’19- Boys Varsity Cross Country

Artur joined the boys cross country team a week and a half ago and has quickly become a great addition to the team this fall!  Artur started the season off with a bang as he finished 5th overall and third for Williston on Saturday at Kent. He managed to run a smart race on a hard, hilly and challenging course; an impressive feat for his first cross country race. This proved to his coaches and teammates that he has what it takes to be an important contributor to the squad this season. Artur certainly has a bright season ahead and he’s shown that he is competitive and eager to get faster. Artur has a can-do attitude and comes ready to push himself every day. Through this effort he will undoubtedly provide a great example for the rest of the boys on the team!
