Athletes of the Week

Brycen Barry ’26 – JV Baseball

Brycen had a fantastic game at first base in the Wildcats’ season opener at Salisbury.  Brycen made a diving stop on a ball hit hard down the line which robbed a certain extra-base hit. Meanwhile, offensively, Brycen reached base in all three plate appearances, going 1-2 with a walk and an RBI single, and reaching on an error in his final at-bat.  Beyond his play on the field, Brycen’s quiet leadership has set a positive tone and he is a great role model for the younger players on the team.

Xander Oleksak ’25 – JV Baseball

Xander went 3-4 against Suffield and scored 4 runs to push the Wildcats to a big victory.  Xander also stole home for a walk-off win.  After bunting for a base hit to open the inning, Xander stole second and advanced to third on a fly ball.  With two outs, Co-Captain Cole Cavanaugh walked to set up a 1st and 3rd situation.  The next play was a lot of fun.  Junior outfielder Kenzo Endo faked the bunt and took a strike. Meanwhile, Cole took off for second but purposefully tripped and face-planted between 1st and 2nd.  Though the catcher was planning not to throw down, he reacted to the fall by throwing the ball to second base, giving Xander the chance to come home with the winning run while Cole popped up and stayed in the run-down long enough for the play to work.  Xander and Cole have been great leaders for the team, and it was wonderful for them to be able to use their speed and athletic ability to beat our opponent on a trick play the Wildcats have been saving all season long.

Rinka Okuno ’25 – Girls Varsity Golf

Rinka got off to a fantastic start this Senior season for the Varsity Girls Golf Team! In the teams’ first two matches, Rinka demonstrated steady play earning match play victories 3 & 2 over Westminster and 5 & 4 over Miss Porter’s.  Rinka’s hard work at the driving range has paid off with fairways hit and – improved scores on the par 3’s. Anya’s short game has also made strides over the course of the season.

Joseph Killcommons ’25 – Boys Varsity Lacrosse

Joseph had a great week for the varsity boy’s lacrosse team. Joseph help paced the offense as he totaled 7 goals and 3 assists in 2 games. Joseph does a lot more than just put up points, he is someone who all of the Wildcats’ younger players look up to and he consistently gives 100% whenever he steps on the field, no matter the circumstances.

Ryan Wood ’28 – Boys JV Lacrosse

Ryan has been the cornerstone of the JV Boys’ Lacrosse team at the face-off X this season. A true workhorse, Ryan has contributed to every phase of the game as a midfielder, whether it’s battling on defense, pushing transition on offense, or scrapping at the face-off dot. His relentless work ethic and willingness to do the little things that don’t show up on the scoreboard have been vital to the Wildcats’ success. Ryan leads by example in areas many shy away from: doing the dirty work, staying physical, and grinding every possession. His impact may not always be reflected in stats, but his value to the team is immeasurable.

Alyssa Frazier ’25 – Girls Varsity Lacrosse

Alyssa is a steady presence on the defensive side of the field, and she has stepped up her play as in her senior season for the Wildcats. In two tough games, a loss to Deerfield and an exciting win over Loomis, Alyssa played gritty 1v1 defense against some of the top competition in New England. Alyssa was a consistent cog in the Wildcats team defensive scheme as well. Alyssa is also developing into a strong presence in our clearing game, often carrying the ball up the field, sometimes pushing transition into the offensive end of the field while showing good vision and passing off to an open teammate at other times. Alyssa’s work ethic and accountability have been notable, and she is poised to finish the Wildcat season strong.

Sierra Grandonico ’ 26 – Girls JV-A Lacrosse

Sierra is relied on every day for her quiet leadership.   Sierra’s understanding of defense in lacrosse is impressive and she subtly has helped teach several new students how to play the position.  Sierra was also a key player in the Wildcat win over Miss Porters. The Wildcats were down several returning defenders in this game and due to those circumstances Sierra never came out of the game.  The Wildcats appreciate Sierra’s ability to play with anticipation, a sense of humor, and attention to the small things.

It has shown through her play and what she’s been able to provide for the Wildcats in the heart of the lineup in the last 2 games that the Wildcats have played.

Keshav Ambadi ’26 – Boys Varsity Tennis

Keshav is cool as a cucumber under stress. In a thrilling 4-3 win over Pomfret, Keshav pulled through in both Doubles and Singles in tight matches. In doubles, Keshav and partner Leyton Flynn solidified the doubles’ point with a 9-7 victory over Pomfret’s #2 team. Winning this match gave the Wildcats a chance, but it would come down to Keshav again when the match was tied 3-3 overall. Playing in weather that would turn to hail a half hour later, Keshav went to a 3rd-set tiebreaker against his opponent at #5 Singles. After going down 0-4 in the tiebreaker, Keshav would not lose another

Julia Lloret ’29 – Girls JV Tennis

Julia did an incredible job in the Wildcats match against WMS.  Julia gives 100% in every match and practice. Julia’s enthusiasm for the sport is contagious. Even though Julia was losing 5-2, she fought hard to end up winning 8-5. Julia has been a key contributor to the Wildcats success this season. Julia has demonstrated remarkable consistency and composure on court. With a technically sound forehand and a dependable backhand, Julia’s all-around game has provided a solid foundation for the Wildcats.

Annika Song ’25 – Girls Varsity Tennis

Annika showed tremendous leadership throughout the week and excelled on the court in a 6-1 win over Cushing. To start the match, Annika teamed up with Mia Townshend to win a decisive doubles match to guarantee the doubles point for the team. Their teamwork and communication on the court led them to an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles. After a short rest, Annika stepped on court for her match at #1 singles, fighting her way to a tiebreaker. After going down 4-0 in the deciding tiebreak following some impressive play from her opponent, Annika reeled off 5 straight points with fierce forehands and scintillating serves. Eventually, she closed out the set 9-8, taking the deciding tiebreak 7-5 with a service winner. Liam was a key part of the Wildcats Friday Night Lights win against Northampton on both offense and defense. Liam threw 8 goals in 3 games during the Wildcats tournament win at Middletown. Varsity Ultimate has big goals this year, and the Wildcats will lean on Liam to keep improving and leading to reach their goals.
