Introducing our Athletes of the Week program! Each week, Williston coaches nominate one student-athlete from their team who stood out by demonstrating our core values of purpose, passion, and integrity. These athletes show exceptional dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship, both on and off the field, embodying what it means to be a Williston Wildcat. Read below for more information on each of the Athletes of the Week.
Edmon Tong ’25- Boys JV Basketball
Edmon had a standout week for the boys JV basketball team. His unique skill set and quickness have been invaluable for the Wildcats. Against Choate he had an impressive stretch in the first half, using his speed to attack the rim and score. His defensive pressure also forced several turnovers, keeping his team in the game despite ultimately falling short. Without Edmon’s performance, the game could have been even more one-sided. His coaches and teammates look forward to utilizing his speed and quickness in the final three games of the season.
Lachlan Maddock ’27- Boys Thirds Basketball
In a road win over Rectory School, Lachlan continued showing his progress as a basketball player, putting up 8 points to go along with a handful of rebounds. Lachlan’s ability to put the ball in the basket was critical as the team was down several forwards, and his presence on the glass helped to limit second-chance points for Rectory as the Cats managed to hold the lead for almost the entire game. Lachlan also did a great job in the press defense, operating as the furthest big back and stifling Rectory’s ability to get the ball past half court. His team and coaches look forward to more strong play from Lachlan as they work through the remainder of the season.
Will Hanford ’30- Boys Fourths Basketball
Will has been one of the leading players on the Mighty Fourths basketball team, as shown in Saturday’s contest against Wilbraham and Monson. Will is an exceptional athlete, consistently approaching practice with effort and focus, displaying clear leadership with his peers. Whether the Mighty Fourths is in practice or playing a game, Will is always in the thick of it and shows a remarkable level of awareness, toughness and is consistently leading the charge across the court. This alongside his impeccable rapport with his team makes him an integral piece of the Wildcats success on the hardwood. His coaches appreciate all that he has contributed this season and look forward to his continued leadership by example as they round out the remainder of the season.
Margaret Edwards ’25-Girls Varsity Basketball
Margaret’s hard work on both ends of the court has spurred the Wildcats’ late season success. The senior captain stepped up in a big way defensively against Deerfield. Her three steals, four deflections, and one block, together with her 25 points from the field led Williston to a strong road victory. The center had another outstanding game at Loomis where, despite giving away considerable size to her opponents, Margaret blocked three shots and scored 8 of her 15 points in the paint. Margaret then put up a career-high 38 points in a hard-fought home loss to Millbrook and capped the week with another strong all-around game in a road win against Pomfret. During the week, Margaret averaged 23PPG, contributed 27 rebounds, 17 steals and deflections, and blocked seven shots. Margaret’s effort on the court and her leadership in practice have been crucial to the team’s progress this season. She, like the team, is playing her best basketball of the season as the Cats head into the final two weeks.
Cal Hoyt ’25- Boys Varsity Hockey
Cal returned to the lineup after missing the previous several contests and provided an immediate spark to the lineup registering 2 goals and an assist in the team’s 4-3 road win at Millbrook. Cal has been opportunistic around the net, finishing his chances, and is averaging over a point per game this season. While battling through adversity for most of the season, Cal has remained positive and has never stopped working to get better. His teammates and coaches will continue to rely on him as they move through the remainder of the season.
Malaya Anaba ’25- Girls Varsity Hockey
Malaya’s presence on the blue line throughout the season has been critical to the success of the girls varsity hockey program. This past week, she played with physicality, intelligence, and simplicity in games against Choate and Andover. In the Andover game, Malaya excelled at keeping the opponents to the outside and pinning them in the corners. She uses her stick effectively to break up plays and stays active in the neutral zone. Her tight gaps resulted in turnovers, creating opportunities for our team to transition to offense. Malaya is a quiet but powerful force for the Wildcats, and her team is excited to see her continued contributions for the rest of the season.
Sebastian Enriquez ’25- Boys Varsity Squash
Sebastian has been a rock in the number 5 spot on the boys varsity squash ladder this season. He arrives early each day, gives 100% effort on court, and is willing to learn from anyone. Seb’s calling card is his grit and stamina. No “winning” shot is safe if he is still on two feet. The big change in Seb’s game this year has been adding more power and length to his shots. Sebastian’s coach would like to honor him for his steadfast contributions to the team and unflappability on and off the court.
Mei Gazama ’27- Girls Varsity Squash
Mei has been an integral part of the girls varsity squash team this season. Her strong play continued this week as she earned a 3-2 victory over Westminster on Wednesday. With the team match locked at 3-3, Mei’s match would decide the winner of the contest between Williston and Westminster. After battling through four tough sets, Mei sealed the victory with a forehand winner to take the fifth and final set 12-10. Playing her best match of the season, Mei excelled under pressure and helped bring home a win in a hotly contested matchup! The Wildcats will continue to rely on Mei for her strong play and positive attitude as they finish up the season in the coming weeks.
