Introducing our Athletes of the Week program! Each week, Williston coaches nominate one student-athlete from their team who stood out by demonstrating our core values of purpose, passion, and integrity. These athletes show exceptional dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship, both on and off the field, embodying what it means to be a Williston Wildcat. Read below for more information on each of the Athletes of the Week.
Reece Berrien ’27- Boys JV Basketball
The Sophomore helped seal the boys JV basketball team’s victory against Berkshire on Friday. Reece went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, under pressure, to secure a 47-43 win. Less than 24 hours later, Reece played an aggressive game on both ends of the floor, driving hard to the hoop offensively and intensifying the defense to keep his team in the game. Although the team fell short in the final minutes, Reece’s team-first attitude helped keep the Wildcats competitive throughout.
Lauren Counter ’26- Girls Varsity Basketball
Lauren had a breakout game for the varsity basketball team this Saturday on the road against Berkshire. Coming off the bench, Lauren was a spark for the Wildcats. With strong rebounding and good movement away from the ball, Lauren created great scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates, picking up six points and several assists. Lauren’s performance reflects the hard work she has invested in practice this season, and the great strides she is making as a player. Her athleticism and competitive attitude will be a big part of this team’s future.
Bella Marinello ’26-Girls JV Basketball
Bella consistently helps her teammates grow by sharing her knowledge and leading through example. Bella’s competitive spirit and dedication in everything she does create a positive and motivating environment, driving the team to improve and perform at its best. Her leadership and commitment make her an invaluable part of the team’s success. The Wildcats look forward to Bella’s continued contributions as the work through the remainder of the season.
Cal Hoyt ’25- Boys Varsity Hockey
Despite breaking his wrist in our 2nd game of the season, Cal has been the consummate team player, attending every practice, game, and tournaments over the break and supporting his teammates along the way. He has been diligent with his conditioning and working on his skating every chance possible and returned to the lineup last week. In his first game back, Cal scored the lone goal in our Berkshire game and is expected to add a spark to our lineup moving forward.
Liv Ferebee ’25 -Girls Varsity Hockey
Liv has had an outstanding performance in net over the last two weeks of the season. At the Harrington Tournament, she didn’t allow a single goal in three games, which helped the team secure the Championship. In the most recent tournament, she conceded only one goal in three games. Liv has shown an incredible competitive drive, serving as the backbone of our team through both tournaments and playing a key role in our championship victories. Allowing just one goal in the last six games she’s played in is truly remarkable. Most recently, she stopped 12 shots in the Wildcats game against Tabor. Her teammates and coaches excited to see her continued efforts in net as the season progresses
Liam Barry ’25 -Boys Varsity Squash
Liam has become the definition of Senior leadership on the team. His voice is loud in every huddle reminding his teammates about who we are, where we began, and where we are going as a team. Liam not only leads front and center; he also works outside of practice times organizing impromptu practice sessions, checking in on other things he can do to help the coaches/staff, and makes big picture suggestions about how to improve the team 5, 10, 15 years from now. Liam has also been an important strategic partner in planning our upcoming “Pink Out” game against Suffield on Wednesday, meeting with administrators and the Wildest Cats to make sure we honor the tradition. Liam glues us all together, on and off the court.
Mina Mao ’28- Girls Varsity Squash
A new varsity player, Mina had a great showing in the team tournament on Friday, causing two upsets in the bracket. Mina’s competitive fire and performance in match play has improved drastically since the start of the season, and her growth is incredibly inspirational for the team. It is exciting to think about how much Mina will continue to grow as a player through the rest of the season.
Mia Bauer ’27– Girls JV Squash
Mia, a returning JV squash player, has demonstrated impressive dedication and growth early in the season. Her hard work and focus have earned her the number one spot on the ladder, reflecting her determination to improve her game. Beyond her personal accomplishments, Mia has stepped up as a leader by leading warmups and consistently encouraging her teammates during matches. She has been nominated by her teammates as team captain. With a strong record, winning 2 out of 3 matches so far, Mia’s effort and consistency on the court have been key to her success. Her positive attitude and commitment to giving her best in every match make her a role model for her teammates. Her coaches and teammates look forward to seeing how she continues to grow and contribute to the team as the season progresses.
