The Depiction of Women in Ancient Greek Art

Louisa Weed '20

The Project

I researched how women have been depicted as an ideal, and how over time were able to shake off those labels. Ancient Greeks didn’t seem to single out females, but when they did, women were often praised for their worth, beauty, and power. The Greeks also laid the foundation for stereotypes we have about women today, but they also felt that women were to be seen as untouchable and powerful.

What’s something you learned that surprised you?

I learned I have the ability to write more than 22 pages about women’s portrayal in Ancient Greek art!
