Dear Parents and Guardians, Even though it is mid-October in New England, Kevin Martin and his Dining Services staff took advantage of some unusually warm weather and prepared an all-school cook-out on the Quad for lunch earlier this week. I guess we should enjoy the beautiful weather while it’s here!
As you know, Family Weekend is next week. In order to prepare for your arrival, I ask that you register online for the weekend’s events. Don’t forget to get your Parents’ Fund gift in before October 21 in order to get a symbolic fall leaf showing your support on your nametag. And don’t worry, if you forget, I’ll have plenty of leaf stickers at registration.
I look forward to seeing you all on campus. Best,
Rachel Goldberg Director of Parent Relations
From the PA President

Williston+ Highlights
This October has been a fun and exciting one for the Williston+ Program! On October 6, all of our Upper School French students attended a performance of Cirque du Soleil, providing a catalyst for lessons and discussions on the culture of French speakers.
On October 11, the Caterwaulers and Widdigers had the opportunity to do a vocal workshop with the Creole Choir of Cuba here on campus. Our singers also were able to see the group perform the next day at the UMass Fine Arts Center.
Later this month, our Native American History students will engage in a field study at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum in Connecticut. While there, the group will tour the museum and do a documents-based learning activity.
We have many other experiences underway or in the works. If you’d like more information about any of these activities or if you wish to suggest a resource for consideration, please contact Kim Evelti (kevelti@williston.com).
Williston Athletics
Despite an unusually humid and rainy September, the Wildcats have kicked off the 2011-12 year with a great start. 386 students are competing on 19 different teams this fall. Varsity girls’ soccer and varsity football remain undefeated, while varsity boys’ soccer and varsity field hockey have each had only a one-goal loss on their otherwise perfect records. Boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ water polo, volleyball, and crew have all enjoyed their share of success as well. As is our tradition, our students continue to take great pride not only in our play but in the quality of our sportsmanship. Special mention goes to the enthusiastic, spirited fans who have supported our teams under the lights at Berube Stadium!

Three new items are worth mentioning. As you know, our teams will take on a new look this year with our new Boathouse travel suits. We expect all the teams to be outfitted this week. The suits will go a long way towards building even more school spirit and pride in wearing the blue and green.
We have also adopted a video editing system this year called HUDL, which most teams will be utilizing throughout the year. HUDL is an internet-based video system that will allow athletes to watch their games within 24 hours after completion. In addition to providing great learning opportunities for each team, it also has the benefit of helping students create highlight videos for college purposes.
Lastly, we are excited about the latest improvements to the David Fitness Center with the arrival in late summer of all new Life Fitness cardio equipment. The Athletic Department and the Williston community at large are all very excited to take advantage of the upgrades to this beautiful facility.
Hope to see all of you out cheering on the Wildcats this fall!
