Studio Art

Drawing courses acquaint students with a wide range of media -- charcoal, graphite, pen and ink, brush and ink, conte crayon, lithographic crayon and pastel -- and develop an appreciation for the works of historically important artists. The study of contour, line, gesture, negative space and texture are also part of the drawing course. Most important, we help each student develop an appreciation for his or her unique capacity for expression.

Two- and three-dimensional design classes provide students with an opportunity to explore assigned topics in a variety of media.

Acrylics, oils, watercolors: You'll get to use them all in the course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals, techniques, and materials of painting. Students gain an understanding of the basic principles that underlie the behavior and use of paints and the physical aspects of color. More advanced students study techniques such as egg tempera, stain, and hard-edged linear painting.
