In the choreography class, students create dances through experimentation and improvisation. Some of the dances performed in our concerts are chosen from work created in this course.
The course explores the creative process using the fundamental design elements of dance: shape, space, level, tempo, and movement quality. Working independently and collaboratively, students create movement "studies," which are inspired by the basic design elements, but also influenced by personal aesthetics, music, and emotion. Movement material generated in this class can be developed into pieces presented in the Dance Ensemble performances.
