Office of the Dean of Students
Educating the whole person is fundamental to The Williston Northampton School's philosophy. The Office of the Dean of Students strives to provide students with the structure, encouragement, and resources that promote positive personal growth, enabling students to reach their individual and collective potential.
Parents can find an overview of campus life, a description of the core values of the community, and information particularly useful to parents in the Student Handbook. We believe it articulates the school's core values and the corresponding expectations of behavior that we place on our community members. The Student Handbook is a resource for families, students, and the adult members of our community as it outlines the expectations and responsibilities of each of us.
Students should know that at Williston we emphasize the importance of becoming involved in every aspect of school life—beyond doing the best possible work in your academic, artistic or athletic endeavors. We want you to explore new possibilities in extracurricular areas, develop new understandings of others in and out of our own community and expand your circle of experiences so that you can realize fulfilling results and a lifelong love of learning.
Ideally, we hope that all students will aspire to leadership positions in one capacity or another, whether as a proctor, Discipline Committee member, team captain, member of student government, or as a role model to younger students. We rely on these student leaders in many areas of school life and take the appointments of these positions seriously.
Personal growth occurs when there are challenges, support, encouragement, and good communication between individuals. We hope that both the practical information outlined in the Student Handbook and the philosophical foundation of our school life will assist all of us in our desire to reach our individual and collective potential.
