We Are A Singing School

For a long time, The Williston Northampton School has sought a stirring tune with words that everyone could sing for its alma mater.

There are, of course, many great songs in the Williston Northampton canon. But some, replete with phrases like “Arise, sons of Williston” or “When our girlhood days are o’er,” simply don’t work in a coeducational environment. Other songs, like Sammy, are more appropriate for basketball games than for ceremonial occasions like Baccalaureate.

O Williston, the school’s new alma mater, written by John Anz ’82, Ben Demerath, Catherine Kay, Chuck McCullagh, Adele Tonge, and Greg Tuleja, expresses both the school’s heritage, being set to a grand-old-hymn tune popular in the chapel traditions, and contemporary Williston through its text.

O Williston made its debut at Convocation on September 14, 2007 and will be performed at the school’s more formal occasions, such as Convocation and Baccalaureate.
