Theater

Whether you’re a serious about theater, or you’re just thinking about trying out for a small part, you’ll appreciate our state-of-the-art, 250-seat performance space, which is designed for flexibility. The seating and stage areas can be moved to create a traditional theater with stage, a thrust-stage, or a theater-in-the-round. The facility boasts a fly system, computerized lighting system, sound system, and an attached scene shop. Downstairs are the theater studio (used as rehearsal space), costume shop, and dressing rooms. Students act, of course, but also serve as set and lighting crews, costume designers, and box office managers. Whatever your level of interest, there’s a role for you here!

Featured Course

Acting II

Acting II provides students with further technique to hone their craft as actors. Building on the work in Acting I, students will apply their knowledge of character analysis and blocking to the staging of short plays. Students will also explore theater as a tool for social justice and create an original piece on the topic of their choosing. The course is individualized to address particular needs of students, and scene selections are made in order to address areas where students need to be challenged. By the end of the trimester, students will complete a monologue, a 10-minute play, and a social justice theater project.

Costume + Scene Shops

Our technical theater program builds small worlds that allow the audience to suspend disbelief as a play unfolds. Walls and windows, doors and balconies—our crew creates them all, lending reality, or unreality, as the setting dictates. Similarly, our costume design program stitches together garments for period pieces and modern productions alike.

"This is the first time I have ever written a script, though I’ve performed in many plays. One of the most challenging parts for me was grappling with the idea of keeping it true to myself and opening up."
